Solemnity of Mary/new year's Mass

Hi, this is my first holiday attending mass and I was just wondering if masses on new year’s are usually as crowded as they were on Christmas. Thanks!

In our parish, far fewer than attend Sunday Mass by far.

This year, unlike the past few years, we are having an anticipated Mary, Mother of God Mass at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 31. I don’t know how many will take advantage of that one before they head out for parties but this is one time I prefer Mass on the day itself so will attend and be a reader at 10 a.m.
 
we will have Mass on New Years eve followed by Eucharistic Vigil for peace, and another Mass on New Years day. All will be sparsely attended, sadly.
 
I don’t think New Year’s Eve Masses are very common and in my experience, Masses on the Solemnity of the Mother of God (when it is a Holy Day of Obligation) are not crowded.

I think Christmas services are crowded for all churches and denominations because all the people who probably don’t go to church regularly feel obligated to go on this particular day. I see the same thing on Ash Wednesday (which isn’t even a Holy Day of Obligation).

I read that somewhere in Europe, some government officials wanted to give the regular churchgoers (who pay church taxes) tickets so they are guaranteed a seat for Christmas services since a lot of non-regulars take up a lot of the seats.
