The Bastille, when it was “liberated”, yielded a total of seven prisoners, four of whom were common criminals, and the other three were committed by their families. Had they attacked about 10 days earlier they would have had the honor of freeing the Marquis de Sade, but he had already left the prison. Altogether, a notable day for sure.

You’re obviously educated, what are some books you recommend? They don’t have to be on this subject, can be fiction or nonfiction. I just like to read!

Well this is embarrassing. I used to read a fair amount but now it’s mostly on line. I remember reading about the French Revolution, and being stunned by its barbarity. It really was a reign of terror, but beyond that it was beastial.You’re obviously educated, what are some books you recommend? They don’t have to be on this subject, can be fiction or nonfiction. Katherine Kelaidis, resident scholar at the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago, said, “The Greeks very much had this sense … that civilization is a very thin veneer and that under even slight amounts of pressure, that social contract starts to break down, and [when] people lose that veneer … that can be very dangerous.”
Anything approaching civilized behavior disappeared pretty completely during the revolution.
