Hey guys I’m new to this forum and have a little story plus a question for you guys.

I feel as if I’m called to evangalize to the youth. I’m 19 years old and I have just moved to a new state. I feel this call so deeply yet I don’t know how to go about doing it. I don’t really have a parish yet because we are about to move to our actual home when it’s finished being built in about 6 to 8 weeks from now. Maybe I should wait, I don’t know but I would like to hear some suggestions from you guys on how I can evangalize to the youth and others in the parish. I’m thinking about things that are music related like a music led adoration service. Maybe trying to oganize a small groups once or twice a week. Trying to get the youth involved. I have to say I love when I see other teens and children singing at the top of their lungs on Sunday during mass and I really feel like going to the one’s that aren’t singing and telling them to sing.

Thanks for any and all the advice you guys have

God bless

Best advice: Seek a priest’s advise. They are wise 😉

Thanks, that’s one thing I forgot to post. The parish that I have been going to is close to my house being built but about 30 minutes from where I am now. I have emailed him and called the rectory and everytime I either get no reply or he is busy, he is the only priest of the parish. I have another church that is right by my house now about 2 miles that I am going to be contacting on Tuesday and I really hope he has time to talk, plus I need to go to Confession. Thanks for the advice though. God bless

Maybe I should ask, how is the best way to contact a priest when they don’t respond?

Welcome to CAF, Jefferson. I think its wonderful that you answering God’s call for laborers in His vineyard and the call to evangelization from our Holy Father.

I agree with Nickname. If you’re looking to start somthing in your parish for youth, it may be best that you begin attending the parish first and meet the pastor after Mass. Just your presence at Mass as a young person will make a good impression. Let him get to know you and at the same time, you will get to know the parish and its people. Credibiity in ministry comes partly from being part of the community.

I totally understand you enthusiasm as that’s how I feel about the ministries I’m involved in. A pastor, however, may be leary about someone new just comming to the rectory one day as asking to work with the youth. I’m not sure about your diocese but everyone here that has any ministry with youth or children must go thorugh a training session and have a background check. Even volunteers at my our parish school and field trip chaperones need to be checked out. Sadly its the state of things after the abuse scandal but I agree that it is necessary to hopefully weed out the bad apples.

Is there already a youth group or a youth minister? If so, try to volunteer first with that program. You don’t want to compete with another ministry. You can also volunteer to work with the confirmation program. Your witness as a young adult will be powerful.

The most important advice I can give you is be persistant in whatever you do. You will be challenged in any type of ministry- but don’t get discouraged. Pray that the Spirit will guide you and lead you to make the right decisions. If you need any help, please feel free to PM me. I’ve got a few years of experience under my belt. 😃

God Bless

Thank you for your response. Yeah I think I need to do that. It’s just hard to have worked with kids a bit during my first semester of college and after not being able to attend it anymore I feel some withdrawels from not doing anything anymore. I’m home alone right now without a car or transportation anywhere but the local church is within walking distance. I’m going to go to church in the morning either tomorrow or the next day and talk to the pastor to see if I could help out in any way just doing something for the church. Maybe I could help them with the church decorations or something.

Thanks again so much and God bless
