I’m just curious…if marriage is a gift, then how come not all people get married then?

I mean, it seems and feels to me that I will not marry…don’t ask why…I just have this gut feeling. Though I could be wrong!:o

I think it’s a gift for some, but not necessarily for all people. God blesses each of us with certain talents, or gifts, but God doesn’t bless all of us with the same talents. We each have a different purpose for Christ’s Church, and God blesses us with the talents and gifts to live up to that purpose. It’s like St. Paul said…we can’t all be a hand or a foot…if we were all hands, where would the sense of smell be?

Well, marriage is a gift; a sacrament; as are Holy Orders, not everyone enters into Holy Orders either. God calls us in many ways. Marriage may not be in His plan for you at this time. And if that times does come, you may to decide to accept it or choose otherwise. That will be between you and God.

Fear not… i bet mr right is still out there… none of us know the plan that God has for us… but keep praying… God will answer… who was it that said “you do not have because you do not ask” James i believe…

Hang in there, God isn’t done with you yet…👍

God has created all of us with unique gifts and talents to serve Him in the best way possible. The vocation of Marriage is God’s gift to many (indeed, most) of His children. Through marriage two people experience a bond which is a reflection of the bond present in the Holy Trinity.

However, this vocation is not for everyone. Actually, the Church teaches that it is not even the highest calling. Religious life ranks above marriage in holiness. Others are called to the vocation of a lay single life. It is up to us to listen to God’s call and discern our vocation in faith, because we will be happiest when we submit to our calling. God has made us for a purpose, and our fulfillment comes when we recognize, accept, and follow it.

If you feel like you are called to married life then you may very well be right. One of the ways we discern our vocation is by discovering what type of life we would like to live. If you believe that married life would make you most happy, ask God to help you to know His will and don’t be afraid. God will not call you to do anything with your life that you will regret!

Hi Paris,

I too had that gut feeling that i’d never get married. But here I am…married seven years now with no regrets! If God wants you to be married, you will be married! 🙂

Marriage is a gift, celibacy is a gift, children are a gift, they are not given to everyone, that is why they are gifts. If they were free for everyone, they would not have value. It also means those who receive them do not receive by right, but by free gift of God, they are not entitlements.
