I have forgotten the definitions of a heretic, a schismatic, and a apostate, heathen/pagan. Can someone reenlighten me please and give me the definitions and a few examples of each?

Is a Buddhist a heathen? Are Wiccans pagan? Are Protestants heretics or apostates or schismatics? I’m confused!😦

Heretic is from the Greek word meaning “to pick out for one’s self”. This term is generally reserved for Christians who pick-and-choose what to believe, usually taking one teaching to an extreme while excluding others. There are two kinds of heretics: a material heretic is one who holds erroneous teachings out of ignorance or improper catechesis. A formal heretic is one who has been made aware of correct teaching and willfully and stubbornly continues in his error.

Apostate is someone who rejects the faith.

Heathen is generally a non-Christian who has yet to be evangelized.

I let others tackle the others.

John,
Great sites, ty. So in definition, Protestants are heretics. A Christian who becomes part of Buddhism or Islam is an Apostate.
