Remember, people, this is NOT a discussion comparing the TLM and the NO. If it descends into that discussion, I will close the thread.

Thank you for that reminder. I wasn’t quite sure how to phrase it myself.

I can see that some people are irritated by perpetual NO-bashing. However one cannot say that the TLM must be off-topic in a Catholic forum. It is one of the official rites of the Church, after all. It seems to me it is very difficult to discuss the TLM except in the context of the more common rite. So I don’t see how this new policy can work.

I cannot pray at the NO, [edited by Moderator]
For me, it’s all the distractions and the business of everything that keeps me from prayer. And the lack of silence.

That’s a good article. I think Assumption Grotto in Detroit would be the model for how the Novus Ordo is meant to be said, and also SS. CYRIL & METHODIUS SLOVAK CATHOLIC CHURCH, from what I’ve heard.
I agree, thank you so much!
I wonder if it would be possible to get videos of Masses like this and distribute them to all the American Catholic Churches to show the priests and congregations the appropriate worship style?

With the new NO interpretation coming out, I wonder how much Masses like this will change.

Do you attend this parish? If so, is the consecration always facing the high altar, or just on this occasion?

Just a reiteration of the reminder the moderator already posted:
We are not discussing the NO as lacking in anyway ([edited by Moderator], irreverent, illicit, whatever)

I am wanting a conversation regarding the way the Mass should be said, and if the NO was done correctly, it could be as reverent and beautiful as the TLM, using the article I posted as a guide.

Did you check out the links I gave you? In particular the one for Assumption Grotto?

BTW, by your own guidelines, it will be pretty hard to discuss what the Novus Ordo should be without discussing its faults or weaknesses.

No matter how reverant or traditional you make the NO, it can never compare to the TLM. It would merely be a poor reproduction. Plus, that would negate the point of the NO.

I agree with the Priest’s comments on the Priest he quoted. I disagree with the quoted Priest’s comments. From what I can gather, the attempt of the committee headed by Archbishop Bugnini was to have a Mass that, while still valid, would be more acceptable to Protestants. In fact, one close friend of Pope Paul VI, French philospher Jean Guitton, has stated that the Pope wanted a Mass which was closer to a Protestant service while still being valid. (latinmassmagazine.com/stickler.asp)

Thus, when the quoted Priest talks about vestments and candles that’s all well and good, and I certainly am for those things in the Novus Ordo. But I don’t think we can overlook the fact that the Novus Ordo was not created to look like a Tridentine Mass. Its purpose was to help remove any obstacles to reunion with Protestants. So we shouldn’t be too surprised when most Novus Ordo Masses are not celebrated with much in the way of traditional ornamentation.

The Novus Ordo has actually been tried for 40 years now.

I think that PatienceAndLove wants to talk about is in the article that she/he posted. Not why you may not like the NO.

I will have to post about it later. Hubby is on the way home for dinner. 👍

I know, but sometimes doing what’s hard is worth a try 👍
BTW- that’s a happy thumbs up, not a sarcastic one 😃

What I mean is that it’s pretty hard to have a one-sided discussion. If you want to know how to improve the Novus Ordo so that it is said as it was meant to be, how is it possible to leave out any imperfections?

Hrm… good question. I just don’t want to get the thread closed.
I felt that perhaps the article was pertinent, what with the talk to the new NO translation and all…

I understand that NO has flaws, I just don’t want this to become a debate over whether the TLM is better than the NO, you know? LoL.

Any ideas for conversation guidelines paramedicgirl? Because I would love the Traditionalist Catholic take on this article, hence why I posted the article here.
