Someone else handling the ciborium?

Several dioceses have revived the office of instituted acolyte. This is a lay role, not held by a seminarian. I am fortunate to live in one of those dioceses. Many, if not most, of our larger parishes have at least one.

While Lector and Acolyte are open to the laity they are also required to be ordained. So all those working towards ordination to the diaconate/priesthood will be instituted as a Lector, usually in the second year of their studies (I was instituted in March), and then instituted as an Acolyte, usually in their third year of studies (a brother Carmelite was instituted as an Acolyte at the same time I was made a Lector. He will be ordained to the diaconate (transitional) in May.

I know but I was referring to the permanent instituted acolyte. Here is the information from our diocisan website.
