I just stumbled acrossed this and thought this forum could use a little pick me up.

I don’t know about you but it can get really wearying sometimes reading about so many horrible things all the time…and I thought you guys could use a little break.

For all those people who think 4 kids is soooo many and that life is so hard for people with big families, I thought this was a great read.

Definately cheers you up to know that SOME people still value thier kids. 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 I like reading how other parents manage their large families. That article had some great tips.

That makes me smile. 😃 😃 😃 May God richly bless them(even more than He already has!)

I wonder if there are support networks for parents of large families…to share tips and just talk to each other…that might be a good idea but then would they have time for it do you think?

I would like to have a large family someday but right now I have one child. Getting pregnant is not always so easy for everyone. I’m a little jealous of women who can handle large families and pull everything off ok…but jealous in a good way. 🙂

I haven’t really found any formal support networks for large families. I come from a small family, and once my family got large I scanned for books on parenting large families because I figured there must be some tricks to doing it that I just didn’t know.

Articles like the one posted here give good ideas on how to do that. (I liked the idea to make people wait until all are served before anyone eats; my children ask for seconds usually before I’ve had my first bite.) Homeschooling support often has good ideas for large families because many large families home school. Sometimes my support just comes from knowing there are other people with large families. And ironically, knowing people who struggle with infertility helps too because they recognize more than most anyone else what a blessing children really are.

While I find a large family overwhelming some days, I also remember when one child was overwhelming some days too. If women with large families look like we’re pulling off with grace, remember we can only do that with grace from God. And some days He gives more grace than others.🙂

Big families are such a blessing! Do we know if that family is Catholic? Just curious!

I don’t think Catholic only because she talks about working in the nursery at Church during classes. At any rate, they are amazing folks!

More protestants are getting into having larger families because they are just starting seeing the evils of the birth control mentality. I don’t think they are Catholic because Christianity Today is a more protestant geared magazine - which is both good and bad.

Usually when you see a big protestant family it is only because of fostering/adopting, which is also something I wish I could do except I just don’t want to deal with THOSE people again!!

I was a foster kid for a while and I can’t stand the social workers, if they aren’t looking for abuse where there isn’t any, thier deliberately ignoring it where it is. I have heard that some social workers can be nice but never met one myself.

Gardenswithkids I will try and find out if I can link you to an online support for parents of large families. I don’t know if they exist or not but I’ll try and find out!!

Thank you! If you find one, you can post it here as it would also be “something happy”!🙂

Great article!

I ❤️ big families; I’m the youngest of 5, and Mum used to be harassed by anti-family folks. She was going to ruin the economy, or the environment, or something. :whacky: I’m glad she didn’t listen, or else I wouldn’t be around, but I still wish she had more!

Sgt, I’m the 2nd oldest of 5, I love my siblings, particularly my sis (the youngest) but I think my family would’ve been a LOT better if my parents hadn’t divorced.

The one good thing that came out of that was that it made me decide that divorce is just not an option for me no matter what! My husband feels the same. He also likes to joke about having a family of 12, twins and all! But since I’m 24 already and can’t seem to get pregnant again, that is pretty unlikely.

Here we go, online resources for big families, hope u enjoy!:

Only the best -

lotsofkids.com/

Support for families with 4 or more children. Includes message boards, a household section with

“frugal living” link, homeschooling area, articles, recipes, kids only section, and more. I

liked this one a lot!

wilsonmar.com/bigfam.htm
My 2nd fav, this one has good advice and funny articles about being a big family. Click on "you

know you’ve got a big family when…" Hilarious! Unfortunately many of the links on this page

did not work for me…the ones that did were really good.

m.webring.com/hub?ring=rfamily

A yahoo webring of websites from people with large families, some of the websites are really

good, cute babies.

loveathome.com/

An e-zine for people with more than the average 2.2 kids. Tons of articles.

aish.com/spirituality/philosophy/Big_Families_Desired_or_Undesirable$.asp
This is GREAT. It is from a Jewish perspective, but it’s still the best rebuttal to the small

family mentality that I’ve ever read.

foundationforlargefamilies.com/
Primarily for adoptive families but has lots of great links for large families as well.

catholicmom.com/
This is a site just for Catholic moms of any sized families.

Well that is pretty much all I have time for right now… hope u like!

Thank you for all the links! I took a glimpse of some and they look great. Now if I can just manage to tear myself away from Catholic Answers forums, I’ll check them out more thoroughly.😃

I lurk here and saw this thread and thought I’d add to it. I come from a large family but am not sure I really want to have one myself so I have been looking around for encouragement. Your list of sites was very helpful! I did find another site you didn’t list. Thing that makes this one stand out is that it is a quiverfull site that is for Catholics. Most of the others I find are general Christian sites. From what I can tell, the site is kinda new, but they do have a few nice things, and I enjoy lurking on their message boards.

 I’m not sure how to do a link, but let me try. Catholic Quiver

Okay, I’m going back to lurkerdom. Though now that I’ve posted, maybe I’ll drop in more often.

Sara

Thanks for posting the link Sara. I hope you come back and post again, but even if you don’t, it’s nice to know who the lurkers are .
