I’d like to thank everyone for the replies so far. Looking at my original post, I failed to mention that when I wrote that I couldn’t sit down to pray steadily, I meant that even when I have alone time or something like that, I find it hard to bring myself to concentrate and pray. Hence, the reason why I say the smaller prayers and petitions throughout the day.

I hope this doesn’t result in everyone reacting like: “well in that case, (insert scathing response)”
Once again, I am very grateful for all your replies.
God recognizes better than any human what praying steadily costs you. I would try sitting and praying steadily for just a few minutes each day. After a while people are able to do that for longer and longer periods. If it doesn’t work for you that way, don’t worry about it. Read what Brother Lawrence says/does. In his book, there is practically nothing written about praying while sitting still. He was a lay Carmelite of the 18th (?) cent. and his book has become a spiritual classic.
Also, you may want to see a doctor about this as a physical problem may be there (and causing problems in other areas also).

If you all want to conduct an interesting “prayer experiment”, compare praying steadily in front of Jesus in the Monstrance [at a Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration chapel or at a Holy Hour with the Blessed Sacrament exposed] … versus a similar period of steady prayer in your living room or kitchen or bedroom.

As always, … read two books and call me in the morning …

Some call it “bibliotherapy” …
