You know exactly what I am saying. And if you need confirmation read CAF rules on topics like this.

We can help or we can risk damaging the situation further.

You are saying someone doesn’t have to obey the Catechism. Which is a complete act of disobedience.

The OP is not scrupulous, he had a question about what the Catechism states of whether he must confess mortal sins specifically and by Name.

The answer is that the Catholic catechism states yes mortal sins must be confessed specifically by name and by number. If forgotten by accident one is absolved but must mention it in the next confession.

He asked what does the Catechism state.
This is what the Catechism states.

The thing is though, the Preist seemed to be saying it like it applied to everyone that you don’t need to confess past sins

Don’t worry about what it sounded like. Listen to your Confessor, that is your job. Get off these forums with this. You are doing yourself great harm.

The priest may have worded things incorrectly or awkwardly. Priests are human too.

Point is, if you have scruples, you need to find a good regular confessor, tell him you struggle with scruples, and follow his guidance.

Find an experienced confessor. Trust and follow your confessor’s advice. Do not ask the internet for contrary advice. Trust in the sacrament created by Christ.
