Something Rotten in the Diocese of Arlington

Interesting.

At my parish yesterday, our bishop had a pre-recorded “homily” for us to listen to about what the archdiocese is doing, in light of a recent accusation, blah, blah, blah. It was torturous to be forced to sit in the pew and listen to it. It made me angry after a while because it sounded more like a PR piece, and I would much rather have heard a more relevant homily by my parish priest. What the archbishop said meant nothing to me. It did nothing to change my opinion of certain bishops and their actions.

I’ve heard homilies at Mass that addressed the issue, and very wisely (and usefully) connecting the problems with the readings at Mass. I don’t think the problem is using the homily to address the issue, I think the problem is not using the homily to talk about the readings (which annoys me to no end).
