Over end time prophecies. I haven’t been reading end times prophecies lately but when I do think about it I get the heebie-jeebies over it. I picture a time of chaos and lack of security, a time that tests our faith. Well a good catholic friend of mine, believes that something will happen soon. But I asked her well what about within two years, and I think she said naught. So which one is it? She said something else too that I’d rather not write here cause quite frankly not sure if its appropriate. I know what the end times is about. Its not literally an end of the world as we know it, its the time before Jesus comes back to take the sovereignty of God over His earth, people, nations, and tongues, and places His enemies asunder. I mean the timeline of this I figure it 7 to 10 years time. But I’m not sure. Obviously no one knows the exact day nor hour, true but that doesn’t mean ‘okay let’s do whatever we want cause no one knows when Jesus is coming back’ Wrong. I seriously would like to know what God wants of me personally but that is like finding a needle in a haystack. I guess I’m distracted to finding His answer. Unfortunately, I was saved more than a few times in dangerous times in my life so I must be alive for a reason. I know saying unfortunately is a no no…

So question: what do you guys know of the “end times”? And why do the predictions of chastisement keep changing? Perhaps the prayers of the faithful are preventing bad events, laws, and practices from happening. I liked the way a wise catholic man put it: the end of the world can happen as I am writing this email, I can have a heart attack and die, or I might get run over by a bus tomorrow, so either way judgment day is every day and we must be prepared." Such a wise man. I just don’t know what God wants of me personally… Mary even told us to know what God wants of us personally. Some people are blessed to know. Perhaps that is what they call vocation, not necessarily work or career related…

Any thoughts?

May I suggest for you the outstanding book by scholar David Currie written in 2003, titled Rapture: The End-Times Error That Leaves the Bible Behind. You can read the reviews at amazon…
You’ll loose the heebie jeebies and learn a great deal

God bless.

Thanks for the book recommendation but I already have one and I just haven’t read it yet. I checked the link and I’m not fond of the book by David Currie. Seems like my heebie-jeebies comment is more strong than what else I said but that’s not what I meant to impress with. Well with all due honest, this post is rather not needed because one must find one’s own vocation or calling from God. Hardly a soul can tell what one is for another.

Unfortunately there is a group of terribly immature Christians–Catholic and Protestant–who are interested in nothing but gloom, doom, and rumors of boom, or trying to see who can come up with a new horror story about something.

The fact that these tales distress you is a good sign.

There’s something in Philippians: “Whatever things are good, whatever things are pure, whatever things are just, noble, or of good report: if there is any virtue and anything praiseworthy, think on THESE things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Good advice, don’t you think?

No I think Catholics Protestants and so forth are sick and tired of this world the way it is and the lack of hope with wars and terrorism.
Making the same income with more expense every day that money doesn’t go nearly as far as it used to, lack of dreams being fullfilled and all the hopelessness we see in abortions the new agenda with our new president, People are looking for something to hope for like seeing our King come and end all the misery. I want to see the lion lay with the lamb I want to see the end of all wars and need for weapons, I am for gun rights with NO impedance to own them and I am very much for the military and a just war, like the war on terrorism. But with Jesus’s return that will all end. What is so wrong with wanting to see Jesus in our generation. How many more babies must be killed before God the Father says ok that’s it my Son is on his way. How many more indecent acts against our most innocent? How many more murders and anguish. Frankly the only way that war will end is when Jesus returns and I think his return is LONG LONG LONG over due. a protestant friend once told me “I’d much rather fly than die”. I tend to agree with that. I want to be living when he comes. Scoob.

Don’t you feel there’s something inconsistent in your thinking here?

I’ve heard that the Lord tells us in scripture “BE NOT AFRAID” some 365 times - enough for once a day every day of the year. I’ve found myself also being afraid about the end times and death. For a while there I was freaking about Medjugore and Fatima. I also was briefly freaked out about this whole swine flu business.

You know what all of our fear boils down to though? It boils down to a fear of the unknown (i.e. what if there is no God or afterlife), fear of the dying or tribulation process, fear of inflicting pain upon loved-ones or not ever seeing them again, and/or a fear of eternal punishment (we all have at least some awareness of our iniquity and how we deserve God’s justice). In short - this is a certain lack of faith and a certain knowledge of my sinfulness.

I know that if I had true faith in God, I would trust His will, His mercy, and I would do everything I could to live according to His will. I would be at peace with my own mortality - seeing it as the necessary punishment for original sin, but ultimately being little more than a door to eternity. I would have faith that he would take care of my family in my physical absence and that He would be a comfortor for them. I would have faith that any of the suffering entailed in the dying process would be both redemptive and in terms of eternity, very very short. If I lived my life completely as God would have me, I bet I wouldn’t be as afraid of death or the end times.

Yet, despite knowing all this, I’m still afraid. Maybe there’s a way to keep the fear in check, and see it as a blessing (when kept at a healthy level) that keeps us praying and dependent on the Lord. A little bit of the fear may keep us living as we should, going to Mass and confession as we should. Just my :twocents:

No. not at all. Many good practicing Catholics own guns RESPONSIBLY!!! I am one of them. Thanks Scoob.
