I heard a lovely song a few months ago - unfortunately I can’t remember who sang it but she had a great voice. I think it was called ‘Your Mother’s Here’, about Mary seeing Jesus’ passion and wanting to protect him.

It makes me think of both Jesus and Mary wanting to protect all of us when we’re suffering.
 
For me it 's Everybody Hurts by REM
and Salve Regina, which I can never hear without hearing JPII singing it.

Don’t know about ‘Everybody Hurts’ - that often gets me feeling more depressed!
 
This may sound weird, but when I’m going through tough times I listen to extremely heavy metal music. There is something about the nonstop energy in that kind of music that picks me up when things are tough…

:yup: Pantera usually pulls me out of alot of sadness.
 
I had to get in on this one. As a new Catholic I am not really familiar with any religious music. When I am sad I listen to The Good Stuff by Kenny Chesney. It reminds me of my Mom who died from cancer. I also love Independance Day by Martina McBride. I know that it is pretty violent (the woman burns her house down with her abusive husband in it), but I like the strength of it. It reminds me that I will be OK, no matter what. I also like Love’s the Only House by Martina. Another strong song… “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait reminds me of my husband (It’s our wedding song) and he is the strongest guy I know.Let’s see…what else? I thought the person who said that he or she listens to heavy metal was on to something, too. I like Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit. Again, not exactly pure of heart music, but boy does it make me work out what’s ailin me! 🙂

I know exactly what you mean! I am by no means a metal fan, but I have found that when I am angry or upset about something there is no better release for me than to find a heavy metal song and crank the volume way up. It is precisely because of the high energy that those songs exude that I like it. After a few songs, I feel physically drained and can better deal with whatever is bothering me. For some reason, I seem to need to expend a lot of physical energy before I am in a calm enough state of mind to deal with the emotional or psychological aspect of whatever is bothering me.

I may be dating myself here, but 2 of my favorites for this are “Enter Sand Man” and “Iron Man”.
 
Any song by Dark Tranquility, my favorite band. I find their music so uplifting.

That is a lovely song.
 
I had some problems last year with depression and the song that really helped me through that time was ‘Tears and rain’ by James Blunt.
It’s still one of my favorite songs. Everytime I hear it it just moves me emotionaly.
 
Morning Has Broken sung by Cat Stevens has always been a good one for me. Actually, just about anything sung by Cat Stevens, including Peace Train, Tea For The Tillerman, and so many others. I have also been uplifted by George Winston’s album December, which is technically a Christmas album, but the spiritual component is so strong that it has helped lift me out of depression more than once.
 
How about Keith Urban’s “You’re Not Alone Tonight” or “You Win” they are on his Golden Road CD and they both helped me alot. I don’t know if he wrote the song “You Win” in speaking to God, but that is exactly how I interpret it.👍
