How are we to interpret 'the sons of God’ in this passage?
“When men had begun to be plentiful on the earth, and daughters had been born to them, the sons of God, looking at the daughters of men, saw they were pleasing, so they married as many as they chose.” Genesis 6:1-3

I believe “sons of God” refers to followers of God, true worshippers of YHWH. “Daughters of men” refers to idoloters.

I suppose protestants would interpret it to mean the half brothers and full brothers (i.e. siblings) of Jesus with God as their father. Perhaps they would assume God had multiple wifes/consorts too?

No, Protestants would think nothing like that. I am a former Protestant. The passage is in Gesesis, and so has nothing to do with any supposed siblings of Jesus. Also, no Christian would ever entertain the idea of God having wives!

Jessica
