Hello Friends!

I was praying the Rosary last night and I use a scriptural book to help me. During one of the readings it cited the readings from “Sophonias 3:17” I have never heard of this before. Is it perhaps a latin name for one of the books in the Bible? Does anyone know the translation if it is?
For those who know Scripture better than I, maybe you can identify where it is in the Bible. Here is the verse:

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, he will save: he will rejoice over thee with gladness,/
he will be silent in his love, he will be joyful over thee in praise.”

The little book I have is entitled: Rosary of Praise: a scriptural rosary based on John Paul II’s Rosary Meditation published by Our Sunday Visitor.

Thank you for your help.

Jade.

It is the book of the prophet Zephaniah. (Couple of books before daniel.)I also had this problem, thanks for asking, as it finally gave me the incintive to find out.

Sophonias (Zephaniah)
The ninth of the twelve Minor Prophets of the Canon of the Old Testament; preached and wrote in the second half of the seventh century B.C. He was a contemporary and supporter of the great Prophet Jeremias. His name (Heb. Zephanja, that is “the Lord conceals”, “the Lord protects”) might, on the analogy of Gottfried, be most briefly translated by the words God protect. The only primary source from which we obtain our scanty knowledge of the personality and the rhetorical and literary qualities of Sophonias, is the short book of the Old Testament (containing only three chapters), which bears his name. The scene of his activity was the city of Jerusalem (i, 4-10; iii, 1 sqq.; 14 sqq.).
