Our parish doesn’t have rose vestments. Evidently, one of the pastors between our current pastor (who would probably wear a rose chasuble if he had one) and the pastor who was at the church when I was growing up (who wore the rose chasuble in the late 70s) tossed the rose vestments.
I am tempted to buy and donate a rose chasuble for the parish. I’ve seen them on ebay for a reasonable price.
Has anyone donated vestments to their parish? Any advice?
What I would like to do is buy them and have them delivered to the church as being from an anonymous donor.
It’s a shame that a previous pastor discarded the vestment. In most cases, the vestments are the property of the
parish, and not the priest, anyway.
We have chasubles and matching dalmatics in every liturgical color, including rose. I would guess that most parishes have *someone *within the parish who would happily buy a vestment, knowing that it would be used for sacred purposes.
Each time we need new or additional vestments at our parish; I simply put a note in the bulletin, or announce after Mass that the parish needs a white dalmatic or a set of red vestments or whatever, and ask if anyone would like to memorialize a loved one by donating the sacred vesture. It always works, always.
And, by the way, when someone told us before Mass that we looked “pretty in pink,” the priest smiled and simply said, “no, we look ‘radiant in rose.’”
God bless,
