Hi Im 18 and im “straight edge” (no drugs, alcohol, and no sex before marriage) Well I do fine when it comes to resisting those things (cept sex…haha cant say any1 has tried or wanted to tempt me with that lol) But the sin of masturbation seems to always creep up on me. I wont have any urges for a while but then it just hits me…I just wanted to know if there are any ways to stop myself and resist? Any help would be appreciated thanks and God bless

Prayer, frequent confession and G-Rated living will be of great help. Never use images like lingerie ads or pornography to enhance this sin because it is like pouring gasoline on the fire. If you are looking at porn, stop immediately. Lingerie ads aren’t “safe” either because it leads to porn use which can become a real snare. These are two different sins. Nobody needs to look at that garbage while doing this. Why be guilty of two sins?

This is an extremely common sin for the young, especially in this sex obsesses society. Your level of guilt might be mitigated by your age, but only your priest / confessor can tell you for certain. The fact that you are bothered by this means you are on the right track. You might want to check out my other posts on this.
God Bless You!

Many of us have been there particularly at your age. Here’s the best advice I can give. The next time you feel those urges, pick up a rosary, pray and pray hard. Is it not working? PRAY HARDER! It’s a tough thing to do, but it works.

Think of yourself on a cliff and about to fall over the edge. If someone offered you a rope wouldn’t you hang on as hard as you could? Despite the pain and strain you would do everything you could not to fall? Well, the cliff is sin and while it might be easy to just “let go” you will fall from grace. The rosary is your lifeline and you need to hold on.

It’s not easy, but I believe it’s in anyone’s power to do it. And like the other poster said, it’s best to not put yourself into a situation where you walk up to that edge.
