Hello, all.
I joined CAF because I had a lot of questions to ask about religion in general and Catholicism in particular. I had reached a stage in my life when I was beginning to think about these questions, and I like to examine things as comprehensively and systematically as possible.
A couple of months ago, I found that I was getting too involved in political discussions on here, and I decided to take a break, as I was beginning to find that CAF was actually detrimental to my interest in Catholicism. I always intended to come back, but not this soon. However, the other day, I was looking in to see whether there were any interesting threads to browse, and I was disappointed to read that CAF is closing at the end of the year. So, I’d now like to make the most of the remaining few weeks of the forum.
Over the past couple of months I have reached the conclusion that I have become a Christian. I have read a lot of testimonies in which people are able to state exactly when and where they became a Christian, but for me it has been more of a gradual process over a period of several months. This has happened mostly through reading the New Testament and realising that I do have a genuine belief in Jesus and a desire to follow him. This year has obviously been a very unusual time for such a conversion, and it has rarely been possible to attend a church except online, especially as I am pregnant and extremely cautious. However, I have been able to be in regular contact with some Christian friends, which has been a blessing at this time.
I’d like to thank everyone who has answered my questions on here. You have shown a lot of patience with me! Maybe on new year’s eve I’ll say a few special thank yous to a few people whose contributions have been especially helpful to me.
I still have plenty of questions, and I suspect that I am not realistically likely to reach any conclusions while this forum is still in existence. I cannot promise that I will eventually become a Catholic, but I am at least confident in saying that I have made a commitment to a personal faith in Jesus. I still have a lot of questions in my mind about many (more or less) specifically Catholic beliefs such as the Immaculate Conception, the perpetual virginity of Mary, the Assumption, purgatory, indulgences, private revelations, the sacrifice of the Mass, the authority of the pope, and natural law.
So, thank you to you all, and I look forward to spending a few more weeks with you while CAF still exists.
