I like most men have struggled with impurities greatly for awhile now. Finally I have been able too put my foot down and stop.

Anyways, when a male does not masturbate, his semen builds up. Eventually his body must get rid of some to make room for the new stuff that is being reproduced. This generally happens at night when the person is asleep and is called a “wet night”. As this is completely involuntary and natural I am 99.9% sure this is not a sin. But I thought I would ask, also I want to ask if there is a way to prevent these. Only because I share my room with two younger brothers and my mom generally comes in to wake them up (and sometimes me if I am still asleep). My worry is that it could turn into a very awkward and embarrassing situation if my mom or one of my brothers should see me before I wake up.

So I have two questions.
  1. Are these “wet nights” a sin?
  2. Is there any way (besides masturbation as that is never an option) to prevent them?

Hey there Anim8.

I don’t know that the body “has to” get rid of it. I hear people use that arguement to justify masturbation.

With that said, I don’t know if there is a way to prevent those kinds of dreams (which from everything I’ve read here at CA would seem to say they are NOT sinful) - maybe just to control your will and thoughts while you’re awake so that you’re not pre-occupied with those things.

While growing up, I struggled with those thoughts too and ended up pouring that energy into music. Try and find a healthy outlet for that energy.

I didn’t then because I didn’t know, but now I pray to St. Dymphna and ask for her intercession as the Patroness of those with sexual temptation.

God bless.

The Church teaches that we cannot sin while we are asleep, because we have to have full control of our faculties in order to excercise our will. Regarding “wet nights”, or more correctly “nocturnal emission” or “nocturnal pollution”, the Church’s position is best explored by St. Thomas Aquinas:

“Whether nocturnal pollution is a mortal sin?”

There is some very good information here and I thank you for your replys.

**Hehe, well I’m planning on marrage. But I’m only 16. Plus I’ve heard it helps to find a girl first.😉

**Dandelion_Wine

**Thanks, I never knew who the patron saint of sexuality was, but I figured there must be one.

**Dr. Colossus

**Wow, exellent link, a very good read. Thank you.

NO! I actually get those, and I asked a Doctor of Moral theology who attended the Pontifical Lateran University and has a S.T.D degree, a young very orthodox priest: he said NO, UNLESS BEFORE I WENT TO BED I PROVOKED SOME PRECOGNITIVE THing in my mind by seeing pictures of women in underware etc, etc. etc. etc. with the purpouse of getting aroused. I have suffered in the past with daily solitary sin, and well when a week or two passes without me doing anything, yes, all that seems to build up and my body gets rid of it somehow. That is, if I manage to control the poweful urges more than 3 weeks without falling into the solitary sin.

Yeah thats pretty much the same as me. Its been about three weeks and thats what I figured it was. I just thought I would ask for peace of mind.

I know it’s difficult but continue praying. I can hardly not do solitary sin for more tha three weeks, the the urges get more powerful, I mean very!!

Anim8 and misericordie,

This sort of thing can be beaten. I know because I did it after years of struggle. Keep up the good fight and trust in the Lord’s mercy.

I know it can, after all God knows our limitations better than we do ourselves. And God would never ask the impossable. I am beating it. The struggle will be a day by day uphill battle (and has been). But I will not be diverted from my focus, Christ.

PS.

After today I will not be able to post in this thread as part of what I am giving up for lent is the internet. But if this thread is still alive when I get back I will respond again.

In the meanwhile, God Bless, and may he grant us all the grace to overcome whatever sins we may be facing in this life. So that we need not pay for them in the next.

Peace,

Me too … yep … I had and acted on all those solo temptations until I found prayer. Now I’m solo only at private prayer.

I’ve noticed that the more I pray the Holy Rosary I find myself at various times of the day in a state of involuntary prayer. It’s like automatic prayer with some unknown force driving it. All of a sudden I hear the words of prayer ( in my voice) in my mind! I may be watching TV, or just relaxing, or just prior to slumber … in comes the prayers without any prompting from me.

It seems the “automatic prayer” has replaced most other involuntary thoughts. As soon as I become aware of the “automatic prayer” occurring in my mind it stops being automatic and I then complete the prayer driven by my own thoughts.

Try it …… develop a new habit as a way of ridding yourself of an old habit!

This thread inspired me to do a little online research, and as a result I can only say… Thanks be to God that my parents baptized me in the Roman Catholic Church!

I found the website of “Density Church International,” the pastors of which are a married couple, Brian and Penni Tamariki.

Suffice it to say that they disagree with the Angelic Doctor:

densitychurch.org/discharges.html

His argument relies heavily on Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

Here’s how they introduce themselves:

"Pastor Brian is married to Penni Tamariki and they are blessed with four loving children: Daniel (12yrs), Hananiah (11yrs), Mishael (9yrs), and Azariah (6yrs). As Brian is not a slave to the Whore of Babylon (the Roman Catholic Church), after much prayer he volunteered Penni for a hysterectomy after their fourth child.

“They believe God wants to make New Zealand a spiritual stronghold for the Kingdom of God…”

It depends on the definition of “beaten”. I agree it can be overcome, however the psychological pain subsides but never goes away completely.

I try to look at the bright side.

I don’t think linking to tasteless jokes is appropriate for this forum.
