Lets take a look at how keeping reverence for our Blessed Mother in her Rosary is prescribed by some of the Saints.

Secrets of the Rosary by Saint Louis De Montfort prescribes praying the Rosary kneeling in prayer position when at all possible. Only allowing prayer at work if a person must because of long hours. Stressing the importance of kneeling in traditional prayer position. Clearly calling attention that a persons focus ability is greater and also traditional position for connecting with God is higher in reverence.

Another Good reference is St Ignatius of Loyal. Prescribes the balance of Spiritual and Physical life as just that. A balance is described as not a mixture but separate acts on either side as balanced. An example according to St Ignatius would be as exercise for an hour then prayer for an hour.

A Saint and Doctor of the Church St Theresa also sternly warns of the danger of offending God by not keeping reverence for our Blessed mother and her rosary in the 9 levels of prayer. She also stresses that a person must persevere in mental prayer before reaching any higher levels of prayer that are in the image of our Blessed Mother.

I would just see Soul Core as a sort of Block to Yoga in certain Parish Communities. Yoga does not lead people to God. Indulging in the bottom level prayer that is Verbal Prayer is just that. It very well could keep a person from excelling spiritually and offend our Lord and Blessed Mother by not keeping traditional Reverence.

The Church has always looked very closely and discerned carefully and new movements.

What exactly is “Soul Core” and what does it have to do with the Rosary?

I’ve never heard of Soul Core.

When you start a thread, it’s good to give some background so people know what you’re posting about.

Does the Catholic church approve Soulcore? Apologetics
Does anyone know more about Soulcore and if the Catholic church officially approves it? Here’s one link about it http://www.catholicnewbie.com/honor-body-praying-rosary-soulcore/ and here is another http://www.catholic.org/news/health/story.php?id=59107

Soul Core is exercise mixed with saying the Rosary. Yoga is exercise mixed with guided meditation. You can see the similarity although the clear difference as well.

We are beginning to see both in Parish communities through out the USA

I’ve heard of this before and it reminds me of people that say the Rosary driving or washing dishes, it’s a good way to keep the mind focused on God versus me finding things to worry about or having just nonsense appear in my thoughts. I do differentiate that kind of praying the rosary from when I get on my knees, turn on the candle and take my time to meditate on the mysteries the best way I can with no activity or distraction. . The first one is more to keep my mind from wandering into worldly worry and to reset me in a way. I hope that’s not offensive to our Blessed Mother. The second is more purposeful to receive graces, to honor God and all the spiritual benefits that come with that kind of intention.

What if people followed the Saints and leaned towards an all or nothing standard of Rosary prayer. Maybe a person would pray even more because they get more out of prayer and are forcing themselves to make time to pray the Rosary. The benefits of mental prayer are said to be the hinge point of the rest of the prayer life by St Theresa of Avila. I think the lesson here is quality not quantity.

I have all of the SoulCore dvds and I find them really helpful, in so many ways. Like you said, it’s gentle exercise (with, surprise!, a focus on the core) that requires very little thought so that one may easily meditate on the Mysteries of the Rosary while executing the movements. It’s especially useful for the people who aren’t blessed with the ability to sit or kneel still and find movement conducive to deep contemplative prayer.

I hope I don’t scandalize anyone by saying that I have the Scriptural Rosary, Chaplet of Archangel St. Michael and the Divine Mercy Chaplet downloaded on my mp3 player to pray with at work.

Praying while walking is pretty standard, and St. Dominic had seven different prayer positions. A lot of religious orders have combined prayer with all sorts of activities.

There are a lot of differnt, valid forms of devotion , aimed at different personalities and states of life.

St. Catherine of Siena, also a Doctor of the Church, did most of her deep contemplative prayer while doing extremely physical housework. She learned to make herself a private room in her mind whi!e in the midst of her huge family, and to be mentally still while physically busy. There are different paths for different people.

My “prayer positions” are usually something I can comfortably maintain for 20 minutes and not have my back or knees start hurting. I prefer a comfy chair or laying on the couch. I’ve also prayed walking though I don’t have a lot of time for that lately.

Making a big deal out of what position somebody takes when they pray is making a mountain out of a molehill. I’ve always thought the idea of “reverent prayer position” is way overrated, unless you’re perhaps a novice in a religious order where holding a position is part of your discipline and they want everybody to be doing the same thing sort of like when an army unit is drilling or on inspection. Whatever position helps you focus on talking to the Lord is fine, obviously nothing extreme like doing contortions in the pew but I like to lean back and even put my feet up. It’s no big deal to me if somebody wants to do movements while they pray. I’ve seen people get up and walk around in the Adoration chapel, sometimes they’re doing Stations of the Cross and sometimes I figure they’re just stretching their legs or waking themselves up.

What we are seeing brothers and sisters is the harmony of the great Saints.

St. Catherine of Siena and St Benedict of Nursia are calling to mind that a person should not worry about finding time for prayer. We live in a busy world and reasonably prayer at work is a virtuous practice. This opportunity can be taken advantage of.

St Teresa of Avila, St Louis De Monfort and St Ignatius I think are all teaching us to use our time we can set out for prayer correctly. Making time for prayer if possible should be used in paying Justice to the Holiness of the Rosary. Giving Glory to God by trying to excel in our prayer life and using grace to be in the image of our Blessed Mother.

IDK What ever happened to the All American Cardio work out while listening to Gospel music 💯

First, not all prayer is “meditational”.

Second, if somebody feels they pray to God better while doing Soul Core, then why are you telling them they aren’t using their free time “correctly”?

It sounds more like they’re just not praying the way you prefer or think is best. Prayer is a personal activity. We don’t get to tell others how to do their private prayers and devotions. How is this your issue? No one is making you do Soul Core.

We are all one body. I started this thread because I was inspired that it would help people in their spiritual life. The saints are there for us and to lead us in important parts of life such as prayer.

If a person only prays verbally or decides to not make time for meditational (traditional mental) prayer then they will not make progress in prayer. Referencing the 9 levels of prayer by the first women Doctor of the Church St Teresa of Avila. This is for all people not just Bishops or Mystics/

Asking you brothers and sisters to discern carefully in love any new movements seeping into the Parish communities.

People can do their meditational prayer at some other time of the day. Also, people are at different levels in their prayer life. It’s not a one size fits all.

I’m leaving this thread as it just seems to be another attempt by someone to impose their preferences on the group or complain about how other people are going about their personal spiritual lives. Like 90 percent of the threads on this forum. Not constructive. Bye
