I’m aware of a number of resources for priests’ garb and vestments however I’m having trouble locating a resource for a monks habit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Most orders have thier own made for them.
as monks don’t buy off the rack.
sometimes thou some make habits for outsiders,
like Blue Cloud Abbey sometimes will.
and these people will make habits for orders also.

kind of somewhat on the topic of habits, i am looking for a modern zippered sweater with a hood (“hoodie”) that is over-sized. the body and arms of the sweater would be normal fitting sized, but the hood size would resemble that of a cowl, robe, habit, jedi knight outfit.

if not a sweater, then a light jacket or just a thin long sleeved shirt with oversized hood. don’t think i’m ready to sport a full length habit in public, at least not until i’m consecrated!

sort of bringing monasticism and modest dress to the modern masses… youth… i have been thinking of sewing up my own, but that may prove to be a daunting task.

and no i don’t want the bigger hood for criminal intent! it’s more for comfort, prayer, and a little testament, too.

Glenfont Habitry makes authentic monks habits. I worked for a short time with Brother Phillip He is a former Trappist monk and is now starting a community with other former monks in a more heremitic lifestyle than the Trappists. He is the main tailor for Glenfont as that was his job in Spencer Abbey for over 17 years. His work for mens habits is wonderful and he also makes monastic work hoodies. As for womens habits, he has a way to go.

I have not found anyone who makes good womens habits. I had mine made from a local seamtress who did a wonderful job. My former superior sent me a pattern and this seamstress fitted it for me and made me a habit and pattern to fit me exactly at a reasonable price. It is a true Carmelite habit to the T.

If you look up Glenfont you will find some pics of mens habits. He makes all the habits for the Immaculate conception province of Franciscans as well as some Carthusian, Benedictine, Camaldolese, etc…

Gothic Garments are poor imitations of real Habits especially for women of established orders. The Carmelite habit is very poorly done.

Hope this helps.

Glenfort is more expensive the Glory and Praise. Glory and Praise makes our habits and they are good quality fabrics and well made.

Christmas blessings to all

Hello Ivigil55, are you still making habits???, we are a small new foundation in Florida in the process of changing our habits to a Third Order Regular format in brown… are you able to make something like that and how much will each habit cost…?

May I wholeheartedly recommend Chapel Gallery from Canada? sccg@mail.com They are skilled and fast and cost less than others. All habits and other garments. I have been using them for years with great satisfaction. They do not advertise but go by recommendations and word of mouth and have supplied many in Orders.

email them at sccg@mail.com
