My 15 year old son feels called to a great devotion to his faith and to sharing it with others. He needs some work on his “skills” however to make sure that he knows the best way to pass on God’s message. While he is excellent at quoting the Scripture, one of our priests has suggested that he do more study aimed at “Breaking Open the Word” so he can make sure he knows the context behind the passages he quotes and be more confident in how he shares and applies them (he needs more “big picture”). He is going to get back with me about study recommendations but I thought this might be a good place to ask for recommendations for my young evangelist.

Just FYI…he often feels things aimed at teens are “dummed down” (though he may be more open to something he thought would be easier to share with other teens) and is pretty traditional in his opinions/beliefs (won’t be an altar server at our parish because they are allowed to stand during the Consecration, which he is not at all comfortable with)

Thanks!

find out if a parish near you has the T3 Teen Bible timeline, or the Great Bible Adventure, on which it is based (a bit expensive for one family) but the best first bible study.
for less money but more work on his part, get the Our Father’s Plan DVD of the old EWTN series from Ignatius press, with the workbook
plan to take 6 months doing one segment a week covering this overview of the entire salvation history story

Make sure he approaches evangelization with humility and charity–not just having arguments. 😃

Developing an attitude of charity is definitely going to be the hardest part for him. Several people in our parish have asked if he has considered becoming a priest. While he is certainly devoted enough to the faith I worry about his seeming lack of patience with the faithful. He says he feels very called to deeper devotion to the faith but where that will take him, who knows? I just want to do what I can to support him until he figures that out.
