Neanderthals lived about 300,000 years ago and died out about 40,000 years ago. I didn’t know that the Book of Genesis was written that long ago. What language were they using then when the Book of Genesis was written that long ago?

As I grab my Catholic Bible and read the date of when Genesis is written, it ranges between 1222-1000 B.C. Neanderthals have been out of the picture by then.

No.

Neandertals are ancestors of (some) homo sapiens. For those whose ancestors are non-African (i.e., European or Asian), Neandertals were their ancestors. Therefore, there’s about 2% of Neandertal and homo sapien DNA that’s in common. However, that doesn’t mean we’re “part Neandertal”.

Think of it this way: you share DNA with your mom and dad. Does that mean that you aren’t fully ‘you’? Of course not! You’re 100% you! And, the person that you are has certain DNA-level things in common with your parents, but that doesn’t change your personal identity.

In the same way, human DNA has certain things in common with other animals, Neandertals among them. That doesn’t mean that we (necessarily) share humanity with them. We share identity as animals, as mammals, as hominins. But that doesn’t mean that we’re “part Neandertal”.

You & Tomdstone didn’t notice the wink 😉 smiley . This Topic of Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens has been going on for over 1000 posts with no end in sight.
I was trying to put a little humor into saying …accept God’s Word…the Bible.
