My friend told me

“those who participate in the Mass (ie servers, lectors, cantors, choirs) receive special graces, because it is a reliving of Christ’s passion and crucifixion”

I’m just wondering if this is true, or who said it? Or is she just trying to get me to be the pianist at Mass 😛

Thanks and God bless

Hi Jerok, she can certainly say that in truth, since we are given special graces from God for all the works of charity we do in faith in Christ. And the jobs you mention go above and beyond our obligation to God, though, on a technical point, everyone is supposed to “participate in the Mass” (Catechism). So you can correct her on that. 🙂 God bless.

This doesn’t sound right. What’s the source for that idea? I’m simply not aware of any Church teaching that says that (and I would be shocked if it were true).

I would say that any exercise of a liturgical ministry in the Mass OR any other service of the Church is ITSELF a special grace from God that HE takes the initiative in bestowing.

It’s not like we earn points with God for being reader. It’s BEING reader that is the point God gives us to start with.
