The post (from Kendra) about staying home vs. working (what do most Catholic moms do), got me wondering something. Like I mentioned, I stay home now, and really have zero desire to ever go back to work, but my husband wants me to, be we really are financially struggling (but making it. Barely). I’m putting it off. Currently, I have 3 kids in elementary school (ages 10, 8, and 6), one in preschool (4. He’ll have one more year of preschool before starting kindergarten. His birthday is in September, and Missouri’s cutoff is July 31st. All my kids have late summer through fall bdays, so are the oldest in their classes, but I digress), and a 2 year old who still has another whole year before he’ll even be in preschool. Around here, daycares have a cutoff age of 11 or 12. I don’t think that’s old enough to be left alone all day (especially for my kids!). Our grade school has before and after care for all the up through 8th grade, but during the summer they’d have to be in a “day camp”. What do you all do with your kids in the summer? We don’t have any local family that could watch them or even check in, and there’s just no way I can leave my kids all day until at least age 13, if not 14 (when I hope they could get summer jobs babysitting someone else’s kids!)
