The thread about married people and opposite sex friendships inspired me to post this thread.
How do you and your spouse navigate friendships? Is it different than before you married? Are most of your friends mutual or separate? How often will one of you go out with friends without the other? Have you been integrated into each other’s social circles?
If you’re single feel free to talk about what your ideal situation would be. And of course you can mention the differences between friends of the same sex and friends of the opposite.
Nothing different. Over time, some of his friends became my friends, some of mine his. Those friends have since married (some who weren’t already), & those spouses became friends as well. We also have some friends who are just mine, or just his. Some, the other spouse has met, some, no. Both genders. I don’t know people from his work, he doesn’t know people from my job prior to the one I have now. We know some, just not all.
I tend to have “girls night” more than he sees his friends. But that’s ok, because 1) I am the more outgoing social one of us, & 2) he encourages me to go out or invite them here. He could certainly go out, & I encourage him to. However, the guys just don’t get together as much.
If an old friend (no matter gender) was in town, we would encourage the other to go out for lunch, drinks, whatever, to catch up. It could turn into us both being there, or not. We have complete faith/trust in one another.
