Spiritual Advisor and General Discernment Questions

Hello everyone:

Just a few general discernment questions.

First, (this may be too simplistic) how do you find a spiritual advisor? Do you just walk up to a priest, deacon, or a nun and say can you be my spiritual advisor?

Second, I’m going through a discernment process at the moment about Gods calling. I have been in real intense prayer. I have read that the rosary is a great discernment instrument, which I understand. It’s amazing! My question is, how do you discern Gods calling while meditating on the mysteries? I feel like I should be paying attention to one or the other: mysteries or my calling.

As far as findin a spiritual director, yes, feel free to ask someone if they do spiritual direction and could meet with you. If they’re not available (which could be for many possible reasons) ask if they could suggest someone. Keep following up on leads until you find someone who works.

Focus on the mysteries. First get close to God by meditating upon his mysteries, then he will make your vocation more clear to you.
