Do I have to do everything my spiritual director says?

If you know of them how they manage to know things can I have some say over my life.

Any one with expeience or know of some one in the situation, is this the rules?

What I usually do is to take into account their advice, but the concrete action is all up to me, after bringing things up in prayer with our Lord, of course! 🙂

They are an adviser or consultant. You are in charge of your own spiritual life, not someone else.

I would suggest if you disagree or do not want to take the advice of your SD in a situation, it might be worthwhile to discuss that with them. If you and your SD conflict a lot in what you should do with your life, you either have the wrong SD or you are not ready for spiritual direction.

A Spiritual Director journeys with you on your path to Christ. They are a guide, making suggestions that are in your best interest.

I think if they are giving you suggestions you are not comfortable with, then this should be a springboard for discussion an certainly, prayer.

I find that when I am directed, that perhaps I am overlooking the possibilities for spiritual growth.

It also depends on the topic. If the topic is an overall enhancement for growth, then it should be seriously considered and YOU make up your mind and take action.

If the advice is non-spiritual, then that is a different story.

Thanks I guess I was thinking it was more like a counseling thing, but it seems it is more of intense spiritual direction that produces a change.
It seems to make sense.

Help my SD (friend) sort of dumped me as blocking my e-mails.
And I had some good news to report too, so I can’t reach him.
Should I get another one? I was sad:( cried for an hour but I will go on.
Where would be a good place to find one.? Maybe it should be a woman?
I get some good adivse from my fellow Catholics and this forum group but wanted to have a personal sharing and confiding discussion, and some one who doesn’t know me gives better more objective advice.

With the diocesan priest shortage, if possible, I’d say the best place to try for another SD is a monastery nearby. I know it may be very trying/hurtful even to have that happen with your current SD, however you have no way of knowing what may have happened in their life (grieving, natural disaster, etc).🤷 Do pray for that person.

Yes I shall pray and it is not going to make me slide because I have so much to be thankful for. It was a step and there will be many more, it was disappointing to end but praying for others and caring is more important. I believe there are some contacts in my area I can make and if it is God’s will I will meet one. Thank you for your thoughts.

How much you follow your spiritual director’s requests are up to you.

However, you should select someone you can trust and who can come to understand you, you situation, and your spiritual needs.

A good spiritual director considers what is good or even best for your spiritual situation and generally will not ask for something beyound your ability to attempt. If you have a problem with something they recommrend, discuss it with them, just do not ignore it.

Did you try calling him or e-mailing again? If one e-mail message didn’t get through I wouldn’t assume that my spiritual director had dumped me.

Yes I did but my computer does get messed up sometimes, it isn’t really all that important as I can find another I trust Jesus to assist me. I don’t have his phone and I think it would be better to talk in person, him or her, or on the phone so next will be in person. I don’t even like the phone so much. Maybe it just wasn’t a good match.
But I think I did learn alot and progressed I would recommend it for anyone.
I actually tried 3, but oh well it may work I can keep trying.
If you hear of anyone in the Madison wi area let me know . Thanks

That is good advice, I will and I did sort of but like I said it was not a waste I hope he didn’t think so, I believe the distance and time has a lot to do with how much can be expected, the internet just may not work in this situation.
