I don’t think I need to edit anything.

Actually, thinking back on some of the threads in the family forum there does seem to be a few that can’t make a decision. If you are not one of them then no need to worry. 😉

Thank you all for your responses.

It was not a retreat that my husband went to but THE Phoenix Catholic Men’s Conference with Patrick Coffin, Dr. Ray etc…

Typical of his personality…he just heard what he wanted to hear. To this point…I have been the spiritual head of the family in teaching my children, going to Mass etc…even trying to teach my husband when he has questions.

Then he comes home from the conference wanting to be the “spiritual head” (must have been a Rah Rah meeting) but him leading anything that has to do with Catholicism would be the blind leading the blind. Don’t get me wrong…he is a good husband and not an idiot but he is surrounded by family and friends that are quite anti-Catholic and being on the brink himself is very likely to be pushed into the lake of “evangelicalism” 🙂

He has problems with Mary, the Rosary, praying to saints etc…

I don’t know how this will end but I will pray and contact a priest.

Thank you all again

You may also want to send the retreat staff a message so possibly they can address it.

Well, this brings me to a good question as an older single woman who is very glad she is able to make her own decisions ----just what then happens if a Catholic wife is told by her husband that she and the children will now be muslims, mormans, protestants, and the list goes on. Does she do as she is told because her husband has spoken as the “head of household” or can she just, this one itty, bitty, little time, make up her own mind and remain a Catholic. 🤷

Veritas I do agree to a degree. Cry me a river. LOL!
A husband abdicates his role as spiritual head when he turns from Holy Mother Church.

Conference, she said, but the advice is the same. They need to know if any of the men they ministered to have gone astray this way. There may be something in the presentations that they need to fix, and perhaps one of the presenters can help clarify things with this husband.

Sounds like his conversion wasn’t 100% if he still has doubts about Mary, the saints, etc. He needs some more catechesis ASAP.

Good for you that you’re going to contact your parish priest! I’ll keep your family in my prayers when I go to Mass this evening (and every other family in a similar predicament.) There are a lot of women who are in marriages where the husband is in no position to hold on to “spiritual headship” of the family.

God bless you as you rise to meet this challenge.

he has been “empowered” by false teaching.
No, the teaching is true… but he has chosen to ignore it’s truth in favor of a false interpretation.

He is CALLED to be the spiritual head of the family… a calling at which he is presently failing. He could not “lead” the family into protestantism, mormonism, etc… that would be an abbrogation of his role as the spiritual leader of the family. The very fact that he thinks children should be left to make their own decisions regarding faith, with no instruction whatsoever, is a good indicator that he has no ability, at least none demonstrated thus far, to fulfill his ordained role in the family.

Though yes, I agree that a good talk with the priest is a good start, since handling this on one’s own is risky.

I’ve noticed several posts lacking in charity, and if it turns into a bickerfest, the thread will be closed. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thank you moderator for stepping in. This place is getting difficult to visit these days. 👍
