In the past there where in the catholic church spiritual leaders with the special gift of knowing the conscience of them who asked their advice or in case of priests like Padre Pio had the gift to “read in the heart” of those who came to confession. So, in many difficult cases these spiritual leaders were very helpfull for a lot of people. I don’t know if there are in the present world also such spiritual leaders?

I know there are, there has always been such good spiritual leaders with the special gift to read into the souls of those you seek for help in there needs. Padre Pio at his time was known worldwide, but where are there now in the present time?

Stephen, I know of one priest who has the gift of reading hearts, as you describe. I don’t know where he is stationed now, however.

When a priest has a gift like this, it is an *extraordinary *manifestation of God’s love. But God does not leave us without help if we do not have access to such a priest. The Holy Spirit is active all the time. We have only to ask for His light. God’s ordinary care for us is quite sufficient.

Pray to hear God’s message to you from your prayer, your reading, the Sunday homily and the advice you receive in Confession. He will not abandon you.

Another saint with such a gift was St. Seraphim of Sarov (commemorated by the Byzantine Catholic church on Jan 2).
Many thousands of people from all walks of life and conditions began to visit the elder now, who enriched them from his spiritual treasures, which he had acquired by many years of efforts. Everyone saw St. Seraphim as meek, joyful, pensively sincere. He greeted all with the words: “My joy!” To many he advised: “Acquire a peaceful spirit, and around you thousands will be saved.” No matter who came to him, the starets bowed to the ground before all, and, in blessing, kissed their hands. He did not need the visitors to tell about themselves, as he could see what each had on their soul.
