“There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty – it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.” - Mother Teresa

Are wealth and the unceasing pursuit of material progress the cause of Western spiritual poverty?

They are certainly a major part of the darkness that seems to reign over the West.

I don’t respond to be flippant. But I suspect that a great deal of it is there are people like me who think a decrease in spirituality is a good thing, regardless of wealth or materialism.

A cause, yes. However, I don’t think it’s the sole cause, but surely a cause.

I think the abandonment of Christianity by the West due to relativism and the sexual revolution are major causes too.

If the concepts of the Family, Church, Will of God, are considered as old-fashioned and worthless, then spiritual hunger is inevitable.

Respectfully opinion only. Great Question! 🙂 making me ponder on, thank you!

When reading throughout the Bible, All Nations, have within them>>a lack of Love of others, lack of empathy, Lack of compassion, have those who hunger, famine exist in areas, civil unrest, political divisions, Spiritual poverty, Physical poverty, those with a great desire for material wealth, fleshly desires, those who can be satisfied and will have some who are >never satisfied, for others, enough will never be enough for them, etc.

Therefore opinion only>>Spiritual Poverty is not a West issue, but a worldly issue, that exist, takes place within All Nations among all walks in Life>> on earth, does it not?

All this is not new, it has existed on Earth, within All Nations, since the beginning of time till this day, know as Spiritual Poverty>>it is not just in the West either, is it? But a Worldly issue among us all? 🙂

One’s question made me ponder on>>The whole Bible seems to be about>>>> The lack of Spiritual Poverty?

Why till this day, are so many Nations, still in great want?
Even thou all Nations being rich in their own> Natural Resources, to provide for their needs and the needs lacking in other Nations? This confuses me, sorry.

Jesus teaching and through out the whole Bible, it was not about the Earth was lacking anything or not being able to fully provide for All who live upon her but>>what was lacking?

2 Corinthians 8:9 " For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that though He was rich, yet for you he became poor, so that you through His proverty might become rich" >

Reading it this way> 2 Cor. 8:9?>>>>>For you know that grace of our Lord Jesus that though He was>> Spiritually Rich<<, yet for you he became>> Physically Poor<< so that you through His >>Physical Proverty<< might become >>Spiritually Rich. >interesting way to read I thought.

Rev 2:9 " I know your affliction and your poverty even though you are rich" > reading this way >>>>I know your afliction and your > physical poverty < even though you are >>Spiritually Rich<<?

Pondering >Is Jesus teaching us maybe?
Better to be Physically Poor, then Spiritual Poor?

Is Jesus teaching us? >The Physical Rich know not how Spiritual Poor they are and the Physcial Poor, know not how Spiritual Rich they are?

Written: Do not boast for all have been given to Freely? 🙂

Is it not written >Those who have been given much, will have much to answer for?>
Pondering on > For those who have been given much, will have much to answer for>>>for their Blessings are to be shared and become a Blessing to others, maybe?

No one would be lacking then?

Spiritual Proverty one believes is not just only in the West, is it? His Spoken Word seems to deal with>> individuals all throughout the Bible, within His Spoken Word?

He called Himself >The Good Shepherd, A Good Shepherd Provides, Protects and Cares for the needs of All his Flock, do they not?

Interesting is all.
Peace 🙂

I think spiritual poverty arises from a lack of discipline. Most problems arise from a lack of discipline.

The west was not short on discipline in the past. What causes a decline in discipline? Decadence.
