Spiritual psalter of St.Ephraim for RC

Hey there,

this psalter was also the work of a bishop Theophan the recluse from the ROC , would it not be advisable not to use it? The publisher is Saint John of Kronstdat Press (1997)

I don’t see why not? St Theophan the Recluse is one of the great spiritual masters of the Church. I know of many Byzantine Catholics who have a devotion to him. Fr deacon Daniel Dozier come to mind.

Is there anything i should be wary of when reading Eastern/Russian Orthodox church material ? I see many differences .

I’m Orthodox, so I think it’s fine lol! In all honesty, many Byzantine Catholics have private devotions to Orthodox Saints. You should not be wary of Orthodox material, especially when it comes to St Theophan the Recluse or the Spiritual Psalter of St Ephraim. Remember that St Ephraim the Syrian is considered a Doctor of the Roman Catholic Church.

I have a copy of it. Saint Theophan only organized St. Ephrem’s work into a Psalter format but didn’t add anything of his own. So the words are solely Saint Ephrem, who is recognized ib the Roman church. You’re good to go.

By the way, I highly recommend the book & learned a lot from it. I also used to read it to my students when I taught in a religious school.
