Does anyone know if the prayers on this site Spiritual Warfare & Deliverance - English Prayers are okay to say if in need of spiritual warfare and deliverance? I’m pretty sure they are not the Rite of Exorcism and they do ask for Christ to take away the evil instead of confronting it ourselves. Some also seem to be from the late, former Chief Exiorcist of the Vatican from what the footnotes say.

I would suggest not messing around with random things from the internet. There are many legitimate books that have nihil and imprimatur, most which could be had for pennies on amazon/ebay.

Thank you.

I will also mention that these prayers are suggested by a priest named Msgr. Charles Pope who posts on blog.adw.org and had a post on deliverance ministry.

Excuse me? I’m simply asking to see if anyone here as heard of them or knows if they are real. I’m providing proof of my findings to seek the truth.

Buy a book

Any one can post any thing and mix enough truth in to make it look legitimate.

I read the prayers.

The Anima Christi and Psalm 91 are standard Catholic prayers, no problem there.

With respect to the other prayers, I myself would NOT say the prayers “Breaking Curses”, “Prayer Against Evil”, “Standard Deliverance”, or “Binding Evil Spirits” because it is requiring the person praying to take authority over evil spirits or command them to do something. Catholics believe that only a priest should do that. If you are not convinced by my saying so, then please speak to a priest before you go messing around with those prayers.

The rest of the prayers appear to be just renunciations of various sinful activities and/or prayers for God’s protection and healing, all of which are permissible. Check with your priest if you have a question.

In general I agree that it is risky to mess around with some prayer you find on the internet that concerns the devil, evil spirits, occult etc. You are better off using a book with the nihil obstat and imprimatur.

Interesting. I would still refrain myself from saying those prayer that command or bind, unless I were a priest of course, or maybe a deacon.

Still, some of those prayers are better reserved to the clergy.

From a priest who was very knowledgeable I was told that when you pray some of these high-level prayers you attract the attention of very high-level demons who will happily prey on you and everyone you know because you don’t actually have the authority to do anything but invoke their ire.

Are you talking about the Manual For Spiritual Warfare published by TAN books? There seem to be a lot of books trying to call themselves “Manual for Spiritual Warfare” these days or similar title, because it sells.
TAN Books is a longtime reputable publisher, some of these other places not so much.

Thank you very much for your helpful answers! I’ll stick to the St. Michael Prayer and the Anima Christi.
If someone were to say the others without the knowledge that you’ve all provided me with, would that count as mixing with the occult (or rather, attracting the attention of demons) and need to be confessed?

No. The person saying them lacked the knowledge about them so it couldn’t be a sin.

In addition to that, it’s not necessarily sinful to say prayers - just dangerous because if you’re not a priest you could be putting yourself in some spiritual danger because you’re talking to demons. So the sin, if any (which is debatable), would be in taking a needless risk, not in saying a prayer to God.

It would not be a sin.

However, if you did pray powerful exorcism prayers that are supposed to be for a priest, it would be good to tell one so that he may give you a blessing and pray prayers of protection over you.
