Dont think of it as studying Catholic history think of it as studying Christian history - that should make it more interesting. It’s just that you wont find much history of what you think of as genuine Christianity prior to the Reformation. The “early” Church (that is for the first 1500 years of its less than 2000 year heritage) was what most would recognize as Catholic.
