Do we need to give material gifts for b’day/christmas if we want to be a sponsor? And does the sponsor have to be older?
Last month, I had to arrange a baptism for a patient in hospital. He was hospitalised, so we did a conditional (?) baptism in hospital. My parish priest rejected me to be a sponsor because I was too young (21yo, student) and he’s in his 60s.
So the patient’s brother was chosen instead, but then I was asked to arrange RCIA session for him when he get well (Go to his house for the session).
Another point, the priest also mentioned that to be a sponsor one has to buy gifts (Christmas, b’day). Is this necessary?
I just want to ensure as I might be a sponsor next year. It’ll be great if someone could tell me the criteria to be a sponsor and what a sponsor must do.
Thanks.
