In light of our country (USA) addiction to consumerism especially during the Christmas season I would like to participate in one of those charities where you sponsor a hungry child or family with a money gift every month.

Are there any Catholic Charities that you would recommend where all or most of the money goes to the actual needy and not administration?

I’ve heard great things about Chalice, and they’re apparently highly regarding in several circles.

In England the Church has the Children’s Society of which Christingle goes to each year too. I have a box at home and put money in that from time to time and about September time it gets collected in and sent off.

Its not specifically supporting a starving child but does go to children in need per se and worthy and assume USA has something like it

Christian Foundation for Children and Aging … they’re a Catholic group. I sponsor a disabled teenager in Costa Rica.
