Sport Team Names Bad?

I Like the
Anaheim Ducks and tar heels
and i wanted to know if it was a sin to watch teams like
The New Jersey Devils
Or The
Duke Devils
 
Yes, it is a grave sin to watch, cheer for or otherwise support the New Jersey Devils. Anyone who does so should go to confession immediately.

Why you may ask? They should be cheering for the BUFFALO SABRES INSTEAD! Now that I think of it, it is a sin to like anyone but the Sabres.:extrahappy:
 
so ur saying its a sin to be on the stanley cup ? becuase they havent been on it in a while 🙂

The NJ Devils are named for a legendary creature known as the “Jersey Devil” who has roamed New Jersey’s Pine Barrens for over 250 years. They are not named after satan, which I believe you were implying. You can check it out here:

And the fact that they’re the archrivals of my high school alma mater has little to do with that opinion. 😛

True but I don’t see dragons when I see the team play on tv during the playoffs. Your fans dress up like devils and some of them probably act like them too. (same goes for fans of any team) I can’t help but think of the Seinfield episode where the devils fan is mouthing off to a priest. That episode was great. I don’t care much for hockey but since the Kings stink I guess I will cheer for the other So Cal team, the Ducks. They lost to the Devils a few years back in game 7 of the Stanley Cup.
 
As a resident of (pardon the reference) Orange County, I have never been aware that ducks were among our more populous critters, even at Disneyland large mice are more noticable:) .
Let’s all cheer for the Banana Slugs:whacky: .
 
ya but the team is not named for an animal that is in the area of Orange County; it is named after the movie. You probably knew that though. Ducks are everywhere. They even sometimes go in our pool and have to be chased out and I live in the city so it is funny seeing them around.

It’s the Duke Blue Devils.

No, it’s not a sin to watch those teams.

However, it is a sin to start threads just to mock people’s faith.

Take that into consideration the next time you start one of these type of threads.
 
Gosh! That’s an interesting thread. Let’s turn it the other way around. Is it a sin to cheer for saints?
Our separated bretheren seem to have a lot of trouble with Catholic devotion to saints and liken it to (if not actually calling it) idolatry. But none of them seems to have any difficulty with their kids having posters of their favorite star (music, sport, acting or whatever) hanging on the bedroom wall.
Is it a sin to cheer for saints?

I know. I know. I’m being a sh-t kicker again.

All I know is that the Yankees are evil, Twins fans are a bunch of jealous buffoons, and the Blue Demons aren’t as good as I’d like them to be.
