Spread of Islam in the Philippines

Most of the so-called Islam converts come from Filipino oversea workers working in the Arabian Peninsula. About 90% convert into Islam because of fear, greed, convenient, and job security. In Saudi Arabia, the Saudis are throwing money out as an incentive in order to get Filipinos to join the dark side. Then, there are others who convert because of fear, convenient, and job security. However, Islam doesn’t have much appeal with Metro-Manila Filipinos and professional. Most are from the rural area and are coolie. When they return to the Philippines, away goes their Islam.

Although the title of the thread is the spread of Islam the OP seems to be speaking historically not any modern spread of Islam beyond where it survived Spain

I thought I’m the only one who notices this in the Philippines.

Those who convert:

1. wanted to have many wives
2. are weaklings and they want power so that no one can touch them
3. are poor people who wants protection
4. are people who are forced to convert for safety reason and
5. are women who wants financial stabilty even if they are only the second are third wife.
   Sorry to say but I have yet to meet a person who converted because tthey find Islam intellectually challenging or because they found the truth inthat religion.

Muslims in the Philippines are like gangs you can’t have a fight with just one of them, if they are loosing, they come back with their muslims brothers, You’ll end up relocating to some other province or you’ll end up dead.

And As I have said before, the only group they can’t touch are the communist party and the Iglesia ni Kristo, coz they know these people fight to death. But the Christians, well they are easy target.

Did you know that muslims and INC has at one time united in bringing down the latter’s rival sect ADD, where the muslims actually ask for the beheading of its leader?

I think the hold of the Catholic Church is still their,even if the government doesn’t openly admit it, the Catholic church has definitely influenced the way the nation is being governed.

Sadly the people who care less about the corrupt politics are now also becoming cold towards the church and its teachings.

Cohabitation, has become pragmatic in some degree for the simple reason of the inability of the couple to finance a descent church wedding.

Pre-marital sex and out-of-wedlock pregnancy are prevalent now due to disregard of family quality time. Anyways what country doesn’t have these same problems?

The Key is to pray and act in on our own little way to change for the best.

To paraphrase the Muslims it isn’t that it doesn’t happen in other free countries its the claim that “my faith is greater” thus it won’t happen in an 84% Catholic claiming country

Actually even civil weddings are also unpopular. Sadly that is the case… lately city governments have adapted the sponsor of mass wedding events just to encourage these cohabiting individuals to tie the not.Can you imagine hundreds will show up to this event.

Yes i know where your going at. Unfortunately people care less about this things now…“Who are we condemn” or “I won’t bother you,don’t bother me” has become the approach of people on this. With such indifference, people specifically young minds, later conclude that these kind of things are being tolerated by the society. Really? When was this? The INC and muslims knows not to touch each other coz they know that it will be an all out war.
I had a former worker who was an INC, then he converted to ADD. They debated the INC three years ago, the INC lost. On their way home they got ambushed and three of his friends died, my friend and his family is still in hiding.

I really like the Philippines. My wife is also Pinay, and we’ve been there many times. Yes, the country has lots of problems w/o any apparent solutions. They can blame the Americans for some of those, the Spanish for some others, but they’re reluctant to accept any blame themselves. IMHO, the main problem is entrenched corruption - public officials almost always look at their job as an opportunity to enrich themselves and their families, not to serve the public.

I suspect that some attacks by Muslims (and earlier, NPA) are really staged in order to get more aid from the USA.

Most Filipinos would never willingly convert to a belief system that requires them to give up Tanduay and Lechon.

That’s not the first time I’ve heard that theory before. Maybe we “know each other” from a fil/am message board. Today I heard the same thing about Israel v Hamas. I expect a few years ago somebody said it about Israel v Hezbollah in Lebanon. And its only because they are not in our media market that we don’t hear about the 4000 dead in Islam v Hindu fighting in India.

While I may only rant about the INC and their honeytrap evangelising methods I never discount radical Islam. The last wave of violence shifted from the NPA to MILF after the Supreme Court threw out the settlement the GMA government had with MILF for further autonomy. I truly expect if a negoiated settlement is ever reached. MALF, or INLF or something will replace MILF and demand more return of “Islamic lands” and the next generation of Armed Forces and PNP will be fighting this same fight. With or without American and Australian aid.

You know, Filipinos are capable of sin without American brainwashing. Yes, a lot of our garbage is sold there. No doubt. There is hip hop, there are violent video games all over the place there, and the morality has become very very lax.

But I think it’s a cop-out to blame the Americans for everything. The third world is capable of great sin as well and if a culture had strong Catholic values it would resist such relativism and nonsense. Neither Americans nor most other countries in the world are, by and large, good Catholic countries.

There are MANY Filipinos that are devout, serious, caring, religious Catholics. I know many of them. But I have to say that, in reply to you and the other poster before you, there are more Filipinos that I’ve seen who live contracepting, having premarital sex, condoning the gay lifestyle, and playing the violent/inappropriate video games, etc. than those who don’t.

Just turn on Filipino TV…it’s filthy! The gameshows have homosexuals right and left, the commercials are often skanty and the shows treat sex just like Americans view it.

I think many of us Catholics like to think that America is apostate and heinous religiously while over in the third world they are holy, devout, traditional Catholics. I think that’s bull and shows naivete. I’ve been to the Philippines A LOT and I keep up with what goes on there a lot as well. My wife’s own family and her family’s friends and so many people I observed there are more like typical American families morally-speaking than one would think.

I can’t count the times I walked into a store in Manila or Baguio and heard “F-you!” in the lyrics of hip hop songs being played IN THE MALL! Girls walk around skantily clad, I hear boys cussing away, there are strip joins in Manila, and you can see right and left unmarried folks with babies, etc.

I’m not being prejudiced against Filipinos, I’m making the point that moral relativism, sexual sins, and turning a blind eye to Church teaching is in the third world more than we pie in the sky dreaming Americans would like to think.

Now that being said, there are TONS of priests coming out of the Philippines. There are seminaries there PACKED with priests and students studying to be priests. I think there are WAY MORE serious Catholics in the Philippines than in the U.S. for sure. There is great devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the rosary is indeed prayed there.

But the Church is not doing enough there to fight cohabitation (trust me, it’s rampant), out of wedlock births, promiscuity, homosexuality, contraception, etc. America and Europe are not the only parts of the world in trouble.

If Amreicans brought relativism and the immorality that go with it, they also brought democracy and protestantism there, which was a noble undertaking.
Nobody is blaming the Americans for doing what they had to do. Why do you need to rationalize immorality in that country and point a finger to Catholic Church for not doing enough? The Catholic Church in that country has been pilloried and attacked for standing as the lone bullwark against the onslaught of western decadence such as hollywood, contraception, abortion, etc. And please don’t say that these abominations are native to that country.

I understand that most are Catholic in name only but 84% do claim to be Catholic.In America if you hear 84% claiming one denomination you almost expect to hear “The Islamic Republic of” to proceed the name. In Utah only 60% claim to be Mormon yet what happens in Utah reflects on the LDS church.

At 5% Islam has some influence but mainly because they maintain armies in the field and are willing to fight. The INCs 4% is only powerful because of their bloc voting. All the other Protestant groups and believers in a non Abrahamic God are minor players. Until Filipinos start denying God as ex Catholic Europeans do, well how Filipinos act will be seen as an example of Catholic life just as in the Utah/Mormon example.
