HI,
anyone from AZ that could tell me the best part of AZ to visit, with the most family activities?? We have a 17yr.old young man and a 14 yr. old young lady. My husband likes site seeing and fishing, my daughter likes sun and swimming, my son likes to be with his friends(who will be on spring break in the Dominican Republic w/o our son),
and I like to swim, hike, and explore.Any Catholic Shrines we should see??. Any Catholic sites we shouldn’t miss?? Where should we celebrate Easter??? We’re thinking Scottsdale and short day trips out?? Any AZ forum members’ advice would be appreciated. We are coming from MI and have never been to AZ.Probable last family vacation for a while as son will be off to college next year.
thanks:wave:

Sedona! Hands down the best area IMHO in Arizona. We went there with our three children (3, 2, <1) last summer and had a lot of fun. Hiking, swimming, day trip to Grand Canyon, and just plain beautiful.

There are lots of places I’d recommend, but I think the Flagstaff area would be a good base of operations. It’s within driving range of Sedona and Oak Creek areas if you want to go there, but also the Grand Canyon/Lake Powell, Meteor Crater, the Petrified Forest, Sunset (volcano) Crater National Monument, Lowell Observatory and scores of fascinating Indian ruins and natural history museums. For Mass I’d recommend going up to Williams (on the way to the Grand Canyon) and looking up Fr. Billy Kosco–his sermons are entertaining, lively, educational and orthodox.

I’d only recommend Scottsdale if you wanted to stay at a pricey resort. Except for some art community type shopping, there’s not much else to do there that you can’t do at home.

thank you for the information> I really apprecate it and find it very helpful. I guess we still fly into Phoenix and make our way from there.God bless and Merry :tiphat: Christmas!!!

When we need to “get out of town”, metro Phoenix, we travel south. Benson, Tombstone and Bisbee. 0 traffic, lots to see, plenty of history and great bed & breakfasts that are affordable. If in Tombstone, check out Mass at the 1 and only Catholic Church in town. It’s so pretty and traditional.
We haven’t been to Sedona or Oak Creek in years because of the awful traffic and hordes of tourists. Beautiful area though if you can go in an “off” time.

I agree; Flagstaff would be a good middle ground. The Grand Canyon is 75 miles north. East of Flag on I40 is the petrified forest and the meteor crater. South of Flag and Sedona is Tuzigoot Indian ruins. The whole state is gorgeous, especially in the spring. If we’ve had a wet winter, everything is in bloom, even the desert.Have a great spring break.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE (name removed by moderator)UT. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO CHECKING OUT THE STATE AS MUCH AS WE CAN. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY ON THE SUBJECT-ALL OF YOU FROM ARIZONA!!! IT SOUNDS EXCITING AND WE ARE READY TODAY, AS IT IS 1 DEGREE WITH A WINDCHILL OF -10.
ON EASTER SUNDAY WE WILL BE AROUND PHOENIX-WHERE SHOULD WE GO TO MASS,OR THE EASTER VIGIL ON SAT NIGHT???

If you don’t mind crowds, and you are in the East Valley, you are more than welcome at St. Anne’s in Gilbert. We are right proud of our beautiful new church and our beloved holy pastor, Fr. Doug.

Visitors are welcome, but get there EARLY if you don’t want to stand!
