I have been looking to buy a St. Andrew Daily Missal. I found a used one someone is willing to sell, and it is in very good condition. The copyright is 1949 and is published by “E. M. Lohmann Co.”

Does anyone know anything about this particular edition?

Check if it a Complete Edition or an Abridged Edition. The former is about 2000 pages while the latter should be about 1100 pages.

The 1949 edition would have the same woodcuts found in the 1945 edition. Be careful with late 50s editions. The woodcuts were changed to modern art (should be starting from 1957 or 1958).

It has 1129 pages

The abridged edition usually goes for very much cheaper. The liturgical commentary provided should be much reduced, and what is really good about the St Andrew’s Missal is the commentary.

Okay, I guess I will keep looking. Thanks!

the one we were given at first communion and used all through school, until it was rendered obsolete by the time I graduated HS. very fond memories, snap it up. actually thinking about it ,we had Sunday missals, but my brother still has the set, with the daily missal, which he had in seminary. also still has his Latin breviary and prays it daily. the “change” happened during his third year and one of the reasons (not the only or main one) he left.
