He started out with a career as one of the world’s first programmers – using punch cards for programming Jacquard looms with intricate designs of his own devising. Like today’s computer programmers, he was thoroughly absorbed in the beauty and elegance of his work and the possibilities of loom programming. But then he became obsessed, unable to turn off his design brain.
So in desperation he gave it up, and God called him to do something completely different.
It may have included sneaking around Spain evading government agents, angelic transport services, a totally free printing business, earthquakes in Cuba, getting knifed, and standing up and giving what-for to the bishops at the Vatican I Council.
