I was curious if anyone knew where I could download some of his writings that are not in old-english. Something a class of 15 yr olds would understand, and keep their attention.

Many Thanks

The nature of public domain is that most stuff available on the Web is quite archaic. This is a problem I face as a teacher all the time.

What makes you think the students won’t like the older versions. Anything past 1700 is readable except for a few thees and thous. If they like Augustine they’ll like him for what he has to say. A lot of adults don’t give teens enough credit sometimes.

Of course I don’t know them like you do, you are thier teacher.

Hi Brian,

If you go to this Amazon site,
you will find 109 reviewws of a modern translation.

I do appreciate knowing where to get a modern translation. My biggest problem right now is that I finally got my hands on “Imitation of Christ”, in the cute Confraternity edition. Problem is…older English. Sure, thees and thous are known, but my brain just can’t process this stuff well. Thank you for the link.

I hear you, I wish there would be a more moder translation of the fathers, especially Augustine, its like reading something just above the english style of the KJV and it can be very hard to read and understand at times.

Hi Seremina,

There are several ONLINE translations into Modern English, which shows that there is a need.

One of them is at[ http://www.leaderu.com/cyber/books/imitation/foreward.html](http://[SIZE=2)

If you wish to buy one, there is the one by Mgr Knox, the famous translator of the Bible into Modern English:

Oh! Thank you. 👍 Would you happen to know if the Large Print version of Imitation of Christ is in modern language or no?
