St. Bartolome De Las Casas?

I have heard that BDLC was beatified about 15 years ago. I was reading about his life, and based on my reading, I strongly hope he becomes a saint!

In the context of his place and time, where spaniards saw natives largely as just “creatures” to exploit, he fought valiantly to stop them from being enslaved. He pushed and pushed for King ferdinan to safeguard native american rights ( which eventually happened!)

He seems a very kind, spiritual, and human man. I hope with our new Latin American Pope, he may regognize him with a canonization!

What do my fellow catholics think?

Here in San Diego…Father Junipero Serra also fought the exploitation of native tribes by Spanish garrisons. He even moved away from the main fortress and established a mission downstream at Mission de Alcala…however…modern liberal/leftist historians are apt to portray him as a bullying, scoundrel who forced Catholicism on peaceful tribes whom he had all but enslaved.

I don’t know that much about Bartolome…but Latin America is a bastion of Catholicism right now…and deserves every Saint the Church would give her as an example.
