St. Bernadette

I’m new to St. Bernadette but I’ve grown to love her. I hope to make a pilgrimmage to Lourdes the next time I’m in France. One of my patron saints prayed to Our Lady there to find her vocation and her prayer was answered.

Bernadette was one of Mary’s “little ones” who followed without arrogance or conceit but with simplicity, humility and blind faith.

St. Bernadette, ora pro nobis.

I hope you do get to make that pilgrimage. I did, three years ago, and it was amazingly enriching. The words “turning” and “point” come to mind. (And yes, there’s a reason why the most sympathetic character in my current writings is called Bernadette.)

I’m hoping Our Lady can help to make that happen for me. I want to be like Fulton Sheen who went to Lourdes with little money and said “Well, if I have faith enough to go to Lourdes to celebrate the fifth anniversary of my Ordination, it is up to the Blessed Mother to get me out.”
