St. George Day vs Octave of Easter

23rd April 2014 will be St. George’s Day. St George is obviously the patron saint of England and so the celebration of his day and the liturgies attached to such are a Feast (also in the Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours)

However, in the Table of Liturgical Days, the celebration of the Liturgy associated with days within the Octave of Easter (such as 23rd = Easter Wednesday) comes much much higher than celebrations of feast of (patron) saints in the General Roman Calendar.

So, it seems that the liturgical celebration of St. George is just going to have to be ignored for that day? Am I missing something or is that right, should we pray the prayers and readings of the Easter Octave over the ones for St. George?

Does that seem a bit odd to anyone else?
Also, does that mean that if I went to church on Wednesday, there wouldn’t be any prayers or reading oriented towards St. George and they will only be focused on Easter?

The Liturgy Office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales also has a page of solemnities, which includes that of St. George (for England) with this information in a box on the side:

•When the celebration falls in the Easter Triduum, on a Sunday of Easter, or in the Easter Octave it is transferred to the next available day — generally the Monday of the Second Week of Easter.

The equivalent transfer took place in 2011, when Easter fell even later (April 24!) than it did this year. The solemnity was transferred to Monday, May 2.

P.S. Notice that similar wording is given for transferring the Annunciation. The wording differs simply because March 25 and April 23 have different, though overlapping, possibilities for “conflicting” dates.
