St. John Eudes was a member of the unofficial “French School of Spirituality”. Most post-Reformation religious leaders, e.g. St. Francis de Sales, are grouped under this umbrella designation. St. Eudes founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary, which is a society of apostolic life. This new form of consecrated life was just coming into vogue.

St. John Eudes also founded the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge. Here is their history, although they have recently been reunited with the Good Shepherd sisters:
