We are desperately needing to sell our house before we go into foreclosure. That’s how bad it is! Something about burying the St. Joseph statue seems to be “against” God or “just not right” - I can’t explain. Is it ok to do this? Just wondering because I would seriously consider it before we lose our home.

Yes! This is totally cool. I know tons of people who did it. Just make sure to dig him back up afterward and put him in a place of prominence in your new home!

It was recommended to me by a priest, in fact. 😛

Thank you Mandajane - can I use the St. Joseph that is with my nativity scene? I hope he will hurry up the sale and I can have him back out by Christmas! 😃

No it is not “totally cool” it is irreligious and superstitious.

Burying a statue of St Joseph is superstitious!

Have you contacted the HOPE Hotline to see if you might qualify for programs that could help keep you in your home, or to explore ways to leave your home without foreclosure (short sale, deed in lieu of foreclosure)?

Instead of burying St. Joseph which is highly superstitious and not advisable why don’t you and your husband pray a novena asking for his intercession with the “selling our home” intention!!!
Prayers get answers, burying stuff not so much!! I remember trying to sleep with my test material under my pillow, never helped;).

God bless, prayers for the quick sale of your home and financial situation.

We ordered the St. Joseph home sale kit and when it arrived my husband and I agreed that the pitiful plastic statue was not even worthy of St. Joseph. There is something about this practice that is sort of “superstitious” too that made us uncomfortable.

St. Joseph takes care of families though and you can rely on him to intercede for you if you petition him in earnest. We did a novena to St. Joseph and God was very good to us. This is the form we used:

Thank you to everyone that replied. I’m sorry if I made it sound that we are losing our home at the moment. We are current on our mortgage, etc. - it’s just getting harder to keep up so we are in the process of doing updating around the house so we can put it on the market. I just know that we have to sell probably within 3-6 mos or I’m sure we won’t be able to afford it.

I almost feel somewhat bad about praying for help to sell a home (which we are fortunate to own) when we are clothed, fed, have our health, children/grandchildren are healthy, etc. and there are people who are homeless, hungry, dying, etc. I know this sounds crazy but I’ve wondered in praying if God is thinking we are selfish when the worst that could happen is we lose the home but we still have jobs so we could find “somewhere” to live. Again, thanks to everyone who responded and I am truly thankful for all that I have.

I bought the little plastic St. Joseph statue when we were selling our house. I kept it in my kitchen window as a reminder to ask his intercession.

Exactly. Burying the statue would be superstitious. But saying the prayers and having the statue out where you see it to remind you-- nothing wrong with that. I have many statues and crucifixes in my home. They are not there because I am superstitious. And yes, some of them are plastic. If that is not your liking, you can certainly “upgrade.”

Gave my Greek Orthodox friend a statue and the prayers to St. Joseph for his intercession. She had no problem selling her upper price range home in an area where we have high unemployment and lower incomes. She in fact credited St. Joseph’s help with the sale. 🙂
