Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased the St. Joseph Weekday Missal and I’m so very confused. I don’t know how to follow it. It has Year I and Year II in it, I don’t even know which year we are in according to that. And it also has the different weeks of Ordinary Time which makes me even more confused. The reason why I probably don’t understand any of this is because I’m in the RCIA class and haven’t quite figured out everything yet. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome home :clapping:

Take it to your RCIA class and have your priest instruct the entire class. It will be a great witness and lesson to the rest of the class.

God :blessyou:

Hi Lorrie,

I have a sunday missal which is a breeze. This morning I used my weekday one and was a little confused. We are in year I. Today was a memorial for Saint Francis De Sales so we had to go to a different place for antiphons…etc. I don’t have it with me or I would tell you the proper pages. Stick with it, it gets much easier. The beauty of being a Catholic is the prayers of the Church (Divine office), Mass, Holy days, prayers…etc, they all come together, fit perfectly into our faith and are very enriching. After 2000 years, there’s alot to take in. hang in there 🙂

I was a bit confused too. Then I saw a little chart on page 31 (might be different in different versions or years but it’s under the heading Principal Celebrations of the Liturgical Year. We are in year I (one).

I have a St. Joseph Missal as well. It does get easier as you go. We are in cycle A, year one in the third week of ordinary time. One thing that might be helpful is this website that lists the readings and optional memorials of the day. It also names the cycle and week that we are in. Remember the odd numbered years are year one and the even years are year two.

I think it is awesome that you using a missal! I recently switched to the Daily Roman Missal and it took me a bit to figure it all out and get used to it (I had always used the St Joseph books). So, don’t give up - Check out the replies here pick out the advice that suits you best and go for it. Once you are comfortable with the missal, you’ll be ready to use the “Christian Prayer: the Lliturgy of the Hours”.

Thanks, you guys, for all of the information. I was so confused!! Thanks especially to joshua1 for the link you posted.

Michael C.: Yes, I also have the Sunday Missal as well. I had no problem figuring that one out, like you said, “a breeze.” 🙂

Thanks again to everyone who replied. 👍
