I think all the created beings that we know are in Heaven are canonized as saints.

St. Michael is one of the principal angels. His name was the war cry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against the enemy and his followers. Four times his name is recorded in Scripture.

AFAIK it’s something of a msnomer to call Michaal the Archangel as saint, since he is after all an Archangel, not merely a saint.

All creatures in Heaven are saints, by definition.

The three archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are the only ones mentioned by name in Scripture. So we refer to them as St Michael, St Gabriel and St Raphael.

More accurately, I feel we should refer to the Holy Archangel Michael. BTW, Greeks refer to him as Archistrategos, or war-leader. Many Slavs also use this title.

The English “saint” is derived from the Latin “sanctus”, which means “holy”.

Personally, I try to limit the use of “saint” to those residents of Heaven who began their existence here on Earth. Except, of course, for the Holy Theotokos Mary.

“St. Michael, defend us in battle…”

Michael is one of my favorite figures in christianity. there’s a church a block off of the portland state campus called St. Michael the Archangel. i just found out that it was there yesterday. they have a daily mass at noon and on tuesdays and thursdays i have a long break between classes so i’ll be able to go to mass on those days between my classes. right inside the front door is a really cool statue. it’s the one where St. Michael is standing over lucifer with his sword drawn.

I’m blessed with the name Christopher Michael…go figure

my brother’s name is Michael. i have Francis for a middle name, after St. Francis of Assisi. i went to World Youth day in Rome in 2000 and got a chance to go to his bascilica when we went to Assisi for a few days. we walked down to the crypt and went right by his tomb.
