St. Nicholas celebration, when?

Silly question, but when does St. Nicholas come to your home? Does he come the eve before his feast (Dec. 6), or the night of his feast? Just curious!
 
We use to celebrate in the evening when the children were smaller, but now we tend to celebrate in the morning, when we know everyone will be at home at the same time.
 
we celebrate that he comes on the 6th and when the kids wake up the shoes placed on the window sill are filled with treats 😃
 
He comes dressed in his full bishop’s regalia to the kinder and pre-k classes in CCD each year, as his servant Peter fills the shoes put outside the classroom with goody bags. The good saint explains who he is, how he became a saint, and why he is the patron of children.

This is wonderful! What a great way to teach. I wish I could try this in my kindergarten class but it’s in a public school and I don’t think it would fly.

One of the girls in daughter’s ballet class had St. Nicholas visit her public school last year. File under multiculturalism, and exploring traditions from other countries.

I mean, if they can celebrate Diwali at whatevergirl’s kids’ school…
 
This is my first christmas as a Cathoilc, and I am so excitied to celebrate st nicholas on the sixth.

We put socks by the chimney on the evening of Dec. 5. When we wake up on the morning of December 6th, St. Nick has put a tangerine, peanuts and a candy cane in each sock. Miraculous… 🙂

All of our kids are grown now, but this is the way we celebrate at Church.

We have a big celebration. We have a parish dinner on the Feast of St. Nicholas. The kids put on a wonderful play, always lots of parental involvement with it. With lots of singing!

Then St. Nicholas comes to the community as we sing:

- yes he is dressed in our priest’s old vestments and has a crown of sorts like the bishops wear (as we are Byzantine Catholic) - so he is dressed as a bishop and not Santa. We sing ‘All who love Nicholas’- can’t remember the name. Then he gives the kids bags of gold coins (chocolate of course 😃 ). The adults get the leftover coin bags 👍

Also, we have a big cake with an icon of St. Nicholas drawn on it decorated with the sugar sprinkles and such. In the cake is a quarter, whoever gets the quarter goes to Fr. Frank and then he gives them $5.00. So a good time is had by all!

Last year I got the quarter :rotfl:but I gave it to a little guy that was visiting our parish.
